Haydn Year 2009
This year, the day of Haydn’s death is commemorated for the 200th time, but no sadness comes up. On the contrary, then Joseph Haydn, Austrian composer, born in Lower Austria and died in Vienna, is the inventor of the string quartet, the maestro of piano sonatas and of the symphonic music of the classics. Haydn is "the Creation with a Beat on the Drum".
At the end of the 18th century Haydn was the Court Composer of the Princes of Esterhazy and an internationally highly celebrated music star, a composer full of life and very amiable, who gave us Austrians the "Imperial Hymn" and the German Nation their National Anthem.
That’s why the City of Vienna and the Federal State of Burgenland organize a multitude of events that can be found under:
We organize:
- Guided tours through Vienna focusing on Haydn and those musicians he influenced the most like Mozart and Beethoven.
